💡 Focus of the Day, Secret #1: Master Yourself Before The Market

Monday was a real-time test of Secret #1. Nvidia fell about 5% as traders reacted to headlines ranging from OpenAI financing talks and Michael Burry's new short positions to DeepSeek funding news and rising credit-default swap costs. This week brings even bigger catalysts—the Fed, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, Amazon, GDP, and inflation. You won't out-predict every headline, but you can stay disciplined and avoid letting emotion make your decisions.

BullBuzz Takeaway: Master yourself before the market, because discipline outperforms prediction over time.

🌡️ Volatility Watch

VIX: 18.88 (+0.21)

Stress Meter: 🟢 LOW

BullBuzz Read: The VIX held below 20 despite a busy week of market-moving events, signaling investors remain cautious but not fearful. With the Fed, mega-cap earnings, and key economic data still ahead, stay patient and let the market confirm the trend before increasing risk.

📊 Market Snapshot

TL;DR: Markets are taking a breather ahead of a pivotal earnings stretch, with tech under pressure while crypto remains relatively resilient.

🔭 Heading Into the Open

  • Nvidia reportedly signed leases worth up to $50B tied to Hut 8's Texas AI data center, underscoring the scale of AI infrastructure investment.

  • Intel reports after the bell today, with investors watching whether its AI and foundry progress can support this year's massive rally.

  • Tesla's robotaxi strategy is back in focus as investors debate whether its camera-only, vertically integrated approach can outscale competitors.

Bird's Eye: The market is entering its biggest test of earnings season. AI spending remains the focus, but the next three days will determine whether mega-cap tech can keep leading the rally.

Ground Level: Tonight brings Logitech, Visa, and Bloom Energy, followed by Microsoft and Meta tomorrow, then Apple and Amazon on Thursday. Every report has the potential to shift sector leadership.

Under The Hood: Beyond the headlines, listen for AI capex, cloud demand, enterprise spending, and consumer trends. The market cares less about beating estimates than it does about what management teams say comes next.

BullBuzz Takeaway: The next three trading days will help set the market's direction. Trade the reactions—not the predictions.

🎯 Idea of the Day: Nvidia (NVDA)

Nvidia closed Monday around $196, down roughly 5% on the AI-financing headlines above. That's inside its past-month range of $189.80-$214.39 and well off its 52-week high of $236.54. The next earnings print isn't until Wednesday, August 26, outside this swing window, so this trade lives and dies on sentiment and technical levels, not a binary event.

  • Entry: $198-$203, on a reclaim and hold above Monday's $195.44 low, not a knife-catch at the open

  • Stop: $189, just under the past-month low of $189.80 (~5% risk from the entry zone)

  • Target 1: $214, the past-month high

  • Target 2: $225, roughly the midpoint back to the 52-week high

  • R:R: ~1.3:1 to 2.3:1

  • Timeframe: 1-2 week swing

The thesis isn't "the selloff is wrong." It's that Nvidia has round-tripped scarier headlines before, and the risk-managed way to play a reversal is to demand the market prove it first, rather than guessing the bottom of a headline-driven drop.

TL;DR: Don't buy the panic, buy the reclaim. Wait for $198-203, not the $195 low print.

🗓️ What's Ahead

  • Today (Tue Jul 28): Boeing, Coca-Cola, PayPal, UPS, S&P Global, Corning, Sherwin-Williams before the open; KLA, NXP Semiconductors, Visa, Waste Management after the close

  • Wed Jul 29: FOMC rate decision, 2:00 PM ET; Microsoft and Meta report after the close

  • Thu Jul 30: Q2 GDP (advance estimate) and core PCE, 8:30 AM ET; Apple and Amazon report after the close

  • Fri Jul 31: Cboe Global Markets, Chevron, Exxon Mobil report before the open

  • Month ahead: Nvidia's own Q2 print lands Wednesday, August 26 (our Idea of the Day, gold-highlighted)

TL;DR: Tuesday is an earnings avalanche. Wednesday is the Fed plus Microsoft and Meta. Thursday is Apple, Amazon, GDP, and inflation. Friday is Cboe, Chevron, and Exxon.

🚀 What's Ripping

Netflix $NFLX (+1.21%) — Shares added to recent gains as investors continued rewarding the company's strong earnings, subscriber growth, and expanding advertising business. Coattails: $DIS • $ROKU • $WBD.

Johnson & Johnson $JNJ (+2.27%) — The healthcare giant climbed after strong earnings and resilient pharmaceutical demand reinforced its defensive appeal. Coattails: $ABBV • $MRK • $LLY.

💥 What's Wrecking

United Microelectronics $UMC (-13.16%) — Shares plunged after disappointing guidance reignited concerns that semiconductor demand outside the AI leaders remains uneven. Coattails: $GFS • $ON • $TSM.

Micron Technology $MU (-5.58%) — The memory chip maker fell as investors rotated out of semiconductor names, weighing near-term pricing concerns against the long-term AI demand story. Coattails: $AMKR • $WDC • $STX.

BullBuzz Takeaway: Investors favored defensive earnings winners while taking profits across parts of the semiconductor sector, reminding traders that even strong long-term themes can experience sharp short-term rotations.

💬 Community Movers

  • Reddit: SNDK, MU, WDC, AMD: Is an 11% one-day drop in Sandisk a gift, or the start of a real memory-market reset

  • X: MSFT, META, AAPL, AMZN: whether four mega-cap prints in 48 hours can defend the AI spending story, or whether "show me" finally wins

TL;DR: Reddit is fighting over whether to buy the memory-chip carnage. X is debating if this week's prints justify the AI capex bill.

🔮 Prediction Markets (The Edge)

Will the Fed raise rates at Wednesday's meeting?

Polymarket's "Fed Decision in July" market has drifted more hawkish fast: no-change odds fell from roughly 78-79% a day earlier to about 73%, with a 25bps hike now priced near 26-27%, up nearly 9 points in 24 hours. Fed-funds futures separately priced in higher hike odds, near 38%, as of Monday afternoon.

Our read: TOO LOW on the hike. A hold is still the most likely outcome under Chair Warsh, but June's dot plot showed nine officials penciling in at least one more hike this year, and that risk looks underpriced at ~27% heading into a meeting much of the market is treating as a formality.

(Odds move, and prediction markets aren't legal everywhere: context, not advice.)

TL;DR: Crowd: ~73% odds of no Fed hike Wednesday. Our read: directionally right, but too confident on ruling out a hike.
