Good Morning BullBuzzers!
"Survival is the only road to riches."
⚡TODAY IN 10 SECONDS
Two prices broke out at once, crude settling 4.4% higher at $105.83 and the 10-year closing at 5.00% for the first time since 2007, and the consumer paid for both.
Today's trade is Intercontinental Exchange ($ICE), which takes a fee on every barrel and rate bet placed this week.

FOCUS OF THE DAY
Secret #10: Think Like A Risk Manager
Tuesday handed you two numbers nobody controls, and a third lands at 2:00 PM today. Crude settled at $105.83 on a shut Saudi pipeline, cancelled cargoes, and tanker attacks near Hormuz; the 10-year closed at 5.00%, last seen in July 2007. Neither was forecastable a month ago.
A forecaster spends this morning deciding whether the Fed hikes. A risk manager notes it is 88% priced and asks what a surprise dot plot costs the positions already on. One sizes an opinion, the other sizes a loss. Restaurants showed which mattered: Cheesecake Factory fell 8.03% and Bloomin' Brands 10.10% on no news of their own, purely on what a $105 barrel does to a dinner bill.

📰 HEADLINES
Crude broke $105, and it was not about demand. WTI settled 4.4% higher at $105.83 and Brent at $108.75, putting oil up over 20% this month. Saudi Arabia shut a pipeline damaged by a drone from Iraq and cancelled some September cargoes to European buyers, while Houthi drones struck three Saudi cities and Libya suspended two oilfields.
The 10-year Treasury closed at 5.00%, the highest since July 2007. It touched 5.041% intraday, with the 2-year at 4.67% and the 30-year at 5.36%. A 5% risk-free rate reprices anything bought for yield, which is why utilities fell 1.20% on a day nothing happened to power demand.
Apple launched a foldable iPhone, and the handset chip names took off. The Duo is the priciest phone Apple has sold, and a folding screen needs more radio content, not less. Skyworks rose 13.55%, Cirrus Logic 5.05%, and Qualcomm 4.25% as the S&P fell 0.46%.
🎯 IDEA OF THE DAY

ICE closed at $156.90, down 0.54%, and it owns the Brent crude contract, the benchmark that prices roughly two-thirds of the world's oil. It owns no barrels. It charges a fee every time somebody trades one, so an airline hedging fuel, a refiner locking a spread, and a fund betting Hormuz closes all pay the same toll.
This is precedent, not hope. When Middle East fighting escalated in late February, ICE printed the largest trading day in its history on March 3: 35 million contracts, 9.3 million of them oil, plus record Brent open interest of 8.3 million. This escalation is bigger, and ICE also runs Europe's largest rate-futures complex, exactly what trades into a dot plot.
It sits 10.9% under its $176.05 high and goes ex-dividend today, so it opens about $0.52 lower mechanically. That is not a signal, and it makes the zone likelier to fill. At 22 times earnings, it is not cheap, and volumes normalize once a crisis passes.

🔔 HEADING INTO THE OPEN
Bird's-Eye: Futures are green into the decision, $SPY up 0.25% and $QQQ up 0.47%, but gold is up 1.15% pre-market. Buying stocks and insurance in the same hour is not confidence. It is a tape that wants to be long and is paying cheaply to be wrong.
Ground Level: Crude is giving back 1.83%, and energy equities are following, $XLE down 0.62%. That is the first two-way trade in oil all week, so today's 10:30 AM EIA inventory number becomes the session's second catalyst.
Under The Hood: August retail sales print at 8:30 AM, consensus near +0.8% after a -0.6% month. A hot number on top of $105 crude hands the Fed cover for hawkish dots, and it lands five hours before the statement.
