⚡TODAY IN 10 SECONDS

Healthcare hit a record Tuesday (Dow +1.0%, S&P 500 +0.3%, Nasdaq flat), and futures are higher on SpaceX and Super Micro, with Meta, Tesla, and IBM reporting tonight.

Today’s idea is the iShares Healthcare Providers ETF ($IHF), the quiet leg of that rally.

FOCUS OF THE DAY

Secret #3: Follow The Money Into Sectors

Tuesday looked calm on the index, but it wasn’t. The S&P 500 gained just 0.3%, yet health care jumped 2.4% to a record while technology slipped 0.3%, and real estate (+1.7%) and utilities (+1.3%) rose as the 10-year eased to 5.12%.

Beneath a flat headline, money rotated hard, out of AI-spending worries and into defensives. Before you buy a single stock, check the sector ETFs: they show where the money is going, and a good stock in a leaving sector fights the tape.

📰 HEADLINES

  • Health care leads, Dow jumps. The Dow rose 1.02% to 52,495.88 and the S&P 500 0.28% to 7,712.57 Tuesday, while the Nasdaq slipped 0.02%. Health care gained 2.4% to a record as investors rotated out of tech, led by Eli Lilly. (Reuters via Business Recorder, AP via Virginia Business, Stocktwits)

  • Yields ease, Fed hold priced. The 10-year closed near 5.12%, about 3 basis points below Monday, and markets see roughly an 88% chance the Fed holds on Oct 28. (Yahoo Finance, Investing.com, Polymarket, Kalshi)

  • Oil holds near $110. Brent traded around $109 this morning after touching a five-month high Tuesday, with Houthi attacks on Saudi infrastructure and Gulf vessel attacks keeping it bid. (Reuters via Business Recorder, Investing.com, Stocktwits)

  • SpaceX beats, merger talk. SpaceX reported revenue of $14.6 billion, up 161% and above estimates, and shares jumped as much as 8% pre-market. Musk said SpaceX and Tesla each formed special committees to explore a merger, with no guarantee. (Yahoo Finance, Investing.com, ABC News)

  • Netflix slides, Super Micro soars. Netflix fell about 6% after hours as its fourth-quarter revenue forecast missed, while Super Micro jumped about 16% on preliminary results and stronger guidance. (Yahoo Finance, Investing.com, Stocktwits)

🎯 IDEA OF THE DAY

IHF holds 63 U.S. health care providers and services stocks, led by UnitedHealth (22%), CVS (12%) and Elevance (10%), with $1.35 billion in assets and a 0.37% fee.

Drugmakers got the headlines Tuesday, but providers rallied too: IHF closed at $60.32, up 2.5%, within cents of its 52-week high and about 11% above its Oct 1 low as yields eased. Elevance raised its full-year outlook this morning. As an ETF, it carries no single earnings binary, but big holdings report inside the window: Quest Thursday, HCA and Centene Oct 27, CVS Nov 4 and Cigna Nov 5.

Managed care is policy-sensitive; one weak holding can drag the fund (UnitedHealth is 22%), and a rotation back into tech could drain the bid.

🔔 HEADING INTO THE OPEN

  • Bird’s-Eye: Futures lean higher on SpaceX and Super Micro, with Brent near $109 and the 10-year at 5.12%. Health care already ran to a record, so respect the rotation but don’t chase chip gap-ups. Keep size at half until the 10-year stays under 5.20%.

  • Ground Level: Good news is getting sold: AT&T beat and raised trades about 4.6% lower pre-market yet, and Abbott is lower on a plan to spin off its nutrition unit. Wait for the opening range to hold before buying any gap.

  • Under The Hood: Crude inventories hit at 10:30 AM and the 20-year auction at 1:00 PM, either of which can push the 10-year toward 5.20%. Meta and Tesla report tonight, with options implying about 6% moves each, so size down anything you hold into the close.
