⚡TODAY IN 10 SECONDS

Anthropic’s public IPO filing lifted chips 2.8%, and the S&P 500 0.7%, while Brazil’s Ibovespa fell 13.88%, and futures are up about 0.3%, with the 10-year at 4.99% and Brent near $115.

The Fed’s two-day meeting starts today, and the idea is Ciena ($CIEN), an optical-networking name 47% below its high.

FOCUS OF THE DAY

Secret #4: Look Beyond The Obvious

The obvious story is Anthropic’s public IPO filing, which shows $16.3 billion of first-half revenue and up to $120.5 billion of planned spending with SpaceX’s AI unit for Nvidia chips. The obvious trade was chips, and they jumped, with Lumentum up 8% and Coherent up 6%.

But obvious trades get crowded fast, and the same filing is a spending plan for the cables, lasers, and links that connect those chips. Looking beyond the obvious means asking who gets paid second, then waiting for a price where being wrong costs little.

Find all 10 Secrets to Success at the bottom of today’s issue.

📰 HEADLINES

  • Anthropic files publicly, and chips jump. Anthropic filed its IPO prospectus to list on the Nasdaq as “ANT,” showing $16.3 billion of first-half revenue and an $80.7 billion net loss that was mostly accounting charges. It also plans to spend up to $120.5 billion with SpaceX’s AI unit through 2029, and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 2.8%.

  • Brazil’s market breaks after Lula’s win. The Ibovespa fell 13.88%, its worst day in six years, and trading was halted for 30 minutes. The real dropped 8.2%, the iShares Brazil ETF fell 19.8%, and Flavio Bolsonaro has not conceded.

    (CappNotes, TheStreet)

  • The Fed meets with the 10-year at 4.99%. The 2-year yield rose 3 basis points to 4.71% after a slightly soft $69 billion auction, while the 10-year held flat. A hold Wednesday is priced above 90%, but a December hike is priced above 70%, so the press conference matters more than the decision.

  • Oil eases on Gulf diplomacy but stays near $115. Brent settled at $115.81, down 0.8%, and WTI fell 1.7% to $101.57 after Qatari mediators traveled to Tehran. Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia continue, so the dip is fragile.

  • EQT buys Range in a $50 billion gas merger. Each Range share converts into 0.987 EQT shares, creating a company with more than $50 billion of enterprise value, and the deal should close in the first quarter of 2027. Range jumped 17.7% while EQT fell 1.4%.

🎯 IDEA OF THE DAY

Ciena makes the optical systems that move data between data centers and across networks.

Lumentum rose 8% and Coherent 6% Monday, while Ciena gained 4.9% to $335.93 and still sits 47% under its $637.51 June high and below its 50-day ($368.61) and 200-day ($402.80) averages. If the filing’s $120.5 billion compute plan is any guide, data centers need more links between them, and Ciena sells that layer. A laggard holding support is a cleaner entry than leaders after a 6% to 8% gap.

The zone sits under Monday’s close and the roughly $341 pre-market price, so it may not fill unless the AI bid fades. Beta is about 1.3, and the next earnings date is Dec 10, so no binary sits in the window.

🔔 HEADING INTO THE OPEN

  • Bird’s-Eye: Futures are up about 0.3%, but the Fed meeting starts today with a December hike priced above 70%. Do not chase the chip pop into Wednesday’s 2:00 PM decision. Wait for $SPY to hold $765 for 30 minutes before adding risk.

  • Ground Level: SoFi raised guidance, Celestica gave a $40 billion 2027 revenue outlook, and Whirlpool cut again, so all three are gapping early. Earnings gaps often fade, so let the first 15 minutes pass. Buy only what holds its opening low.

  • Under The Hood: Durable goods print at 8:30, confidence and new home sales at 10:00, and Visa, Robinhood, and Seagate report after the close. Boeing, UPS, PayPal, and Corning reported this morning. Cut anything you cannot hold through a hawkish press conference Wednesday.
