Good Morning BullBuzzers!

⚡TODAY IN 10 SECONDS

The S&P 500 fell 4.4% and the Nasdaq 5.5% Thursday, their worst day since April 2025, as Democratic election wins stoked fears that data-center rules will slow the AI buildout, and the VIX jumped to 28 while futures bounced this morning.

Our idea is Johnson & Johnson ($JNJ), a defensive that held up, with the October jobs report at 8:30.

FOCUS OF THE DAY

Secret #6: Adapt

Wednesday’s election rally lasted one session. Thursday the Nasdaq fell 5.52%, and the Dow lost 1,833 points as investors worried that a Democratic Congress will slow data-center permits and raise power costs, which hits chip, memory, and AI-hosting stocks hardest.

Chips fell 12% (a chip fund, $SOXX, lost 12.15%) while staples, utilities and communications lost under 1%. Adapting does not mean panic selling or defending yesterday’s thesis; it means shrinking size when volatility doubles (the VIX, Wall Street’s fear gauge, jumped to 28 from 16.6) and owning what still earns when the story changes.

Find all 10 Secrets to Success at the bottom of today’s issue.

📰 HEADLINES

  • The Nasdaq has its worst day since April 2025. The Nasdaq fell 5.52% to 24,315, the S&P 500 lost 4.36% to 7,353.73, and the Dow dropped 1,833 points, with all eleven S&P sectors lower. Nasdaq 100 futures are up about 1.5% this morning.

  • AI stocks crack on data-center politics. Nvidia fell 9.3% and AMD 17.3% as investors weighed whether Democratic wins bring permit limits and power-cost fights. SanDisk lost 22.3% and Micron 17.5%.

  • Oil rebounds as Iran talks wobble. Brent rose 3.8% to $98.29 on tanker attacks near Hormuz, partly reversing Wednesday’s 8.7% drop, and WTI settled near $90.5. Brent is near $98 this morning.

  • Yields slide before the jobs report. The 10-year fell to 4.84% and the 2-year to 4.46% as stocks sold off. Economists expect about 60,000 October jobs and 4.2% unemployment.

  • AppLovin soars while DraftKings and Qualcomm slump. AppLovin jumped 31% on a profit beat ($4.30 vs $4.04) and a strong outlook, while Qualcomm fell 9.5% on a light forecast. DraftKings is down about 20% after hours on a revenue miss and a guidance cut.

🎯 IDEA OF THE DAY

Johnson & Johnson sells prescription drugs (Innovative Medicine, $16.8 billion of $25.4 billion in third-quarter sales) and medical devices (MedTech, $8.6 billion).

It raised 2026 guidance Oct 13 (EPS $11.05 to $11.15, revenue $101.0 to $101.4 billion), and patients buy its drugs and heart devices, whatever chips do. It fell 1.45% Thursday while $QQQ lost 6.5%, so it is where money rotates when leaders break.

A strong tech bounce can pull money out of defensives, and it trades about 1.9% lower pre-market. Health-care policy headlines can hit drug stocks. Next earnings are expected mid-January, outside the window.

🔔 HEADING INTO THE OPEN

  • Bird’s-Eye: A 4% drop and a bounce is not a bottom. With the VIX near 27 (about 27.2 live), swings of 2% to 3% are normal, so cut position size by a third rather than guessing the low.

  • Ground Level: Chips are bouncing 5% to 10% pre-market after the worst day since 2025. Do not chase the first rebound, and let $SMH hold $447 before buying any chip name.

  • Under the Hood: The October jobs report lands at 8:30, then consumer sentiment at 10:00, and CPI on Tuesday. Strong jobs with the 10-year back over 4.9% means trim tech, while weak jobs with yields falling means defensives lead.

It's time to set up your holiday streaming campaign

Are you ready to reach holiday shoppers on CTV? For many streamers, the season is already underway.

Last year, according to Roku internal data, holiday content searches on Roku saw an 86% increase during October. And in November, those searches rise an average of 39% weekly. This surging holiday spirit is mirrored by consumer activity, as about half of Roku streamers shopped Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals in 2025.

Meeting those shoppers is easier than you might think. Begin with the seasonal outcome you hope to drive: awareness, online sales, leads, store visits, or another measurable goal. From there, define your audience, upload your creative, set the budget and campaign dates, and establish measurement before launching. You can even create a shoppable ad unit that lets streamers buy with a click of their remote.

Our holiday playbook offers a month-by-month guide to reaching shoppers during this all-important time of year.

First-time spenders get a $5,000 match on the first $5,000 spent with code BEEHIIV5K. Terms apply.
