We have been keeping a close eye on IonQ here at BullBuzz. The next few months could be a golden opportunity or a black hole for the quantum computing manufacturer.

The company plans to report Q3 results on November 5. This report comes after a very active last few months that could see the company carve a deeper role in the sector.

IonQ’s latest reported quarter showed fast sales growth alongside substantial losses. For Q2 2026, revenue was $80.1 million, up 287% from a year earlier.

The company also reported a $1.868 billion net loss under standard accounting rules (GAAP), or $5.08 per share. Much of the loss came from revaluing warrants, an accounting change that did not use cash.

IonQ’s adjusted EBITDA loss, a company calculation that excludes selected costs, was $120.3 million.

The company originally reported $3 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and investments on June 30, then lowered it to $2 billion after subtracting cash used to close a deal with SkyWater Technology. They’re a semiconductor manufacturer in Bloomington, Minnesota.

IonQ’s September 8 full-year revenue guidance is $450–$460 million.

The range includes SkyWater revenue from its July 31 acquisition through year-end. The prior $280–$290 million outlook excluded SkyWater, so the two ranges are not directly comparable.

The next deal made was with Elisity, a cybersecurity company that delivers identity-based microsegmentation for users, devices, workloads, and AI agents to help contain lateral movement across networks.

IonQ agreed to buy it in an all-stock deal valued at up to $1.3 billion: $1.15 billion in IonQ shares at closing, plus up to $150 million more in shares if Elisity meets revenue goals.

IonQ says Elisity has more than 100 customer deployments and offers software that controls which users and devices can access parts of a company network. Because of this, IonQ plans to combine that protection with tools designed to protect data and communications from future quantum attacks.

What does the deal mean for the outlook? It could add an established cybersecurity business and open more enterprise and government customer relationships. Because the purchase consideration is in shares, it avoids paying the $1.15 billion closing price in cash, but increases IonQ’s share count.

IonQ has not disclosed Elisity’s expected 2026 revenue contribution or updated its $450–$460 million guidance to include it.

The deal may strengthen the longer-term sales story, but it should not be added to the current forecast as a known amount.

Looking at the sector broadly, many companies have a core computing niche.

IonQ’s niche is trapped ions, which are electrically charged atoms held and controlled with lasers. IBM focuses on superconducting chips, and Google is developing both superconducting and neutral-atom systems.

DARPA’s latest evaluation round includes IonQ, IBM, Atom Computing and Diraq, each pursuing a different design. The program only tests paths toward useful quantum computing; it does not pick a winner.

To reiterate, IonQ plans to report Q3 results on November 5.

Watch for any guidance update, customer renewals and multi-product sales, progress toward closing and integrating Elisity, and technical advances that lead to useful work.

IonQ’s roadmaps are company plans, not proof that large-scale commercial quantum computing has arrived. Still, it may have a bright future ahead, and it might still be time to join them on their journey.
